“HOW TO SECURE YOUR INSECURITY”
Dr. Dennis Deese - www.dennisdeese.com
MATTHEW 6:25-34, PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7
These two passages woven together provide the perfect strengthening and fortifying agents for securing our insecurity.
If you are ever feel troubled, threatened, apprehensive and vulnerable, then God has a word for you! He wants to fortify not just your spiritual life - but He wants to fortify your spiritual life to the point that it positively impacts your whole being (every aspect of your life) including your emotions.
Hebrews 6:19a Which [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast...
Not everyone is ready to accept the fact that the best is yet to be. This is true for a number of reasons.
1. Some are content to live in the past. They delight in the ‘good old days.’
2. Many are content to live mediocre lives. They are content to drift from day to day.
3. Insecurity hinders many persons from believing that the best is yet to be. They want to hold on to their position or things. They will never know the excitement of launching out by faith, or waiting for the great things of tomorrow.
4. Negative thinking guides the decisions and attitudes of many people. They choose to accept the premise that the worst is yet to come. They will get what they wish for if they are not careful.
5. Scores have no goals for their lives. They don’t know where they are going today, much less tomorrow.
6. A few think they don’t have any needs. They are pleased with the way things are in their lives (cf. Rev. 3:17). There is always room for improvement in everyone’s life.
7. Fear is always a major enemy to progress. It also hinders a person from becoming excited about the future (cf. 2 Tim. 1:7). AMG Bible Illustrations.
Are you saved? This could be the reason you feel so insecure because you are!
Isaiah 48:22 [There is] no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Isaiah 57:20-21 But the wicked [are] like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. [There is] no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
Hebrews 6:19 Which [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Proverbs 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
A manager and a sales rep stood looking at a map on which colored pins indicated the company representative in each area. ”I’m not going to fire you, Wilson, ”the manager said, “but I’m loosening your pin a bit just to emphasize the insecurity of your situation.” Bits & Pieces, May 26, 1994, p. 9.
Psalms 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
The word of God provides three keys to security:
I. CONFIDENT FAITH Matthew 6:30
Matthew 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
Here the Lord Jesus addresses the weakness of their faith by providing a solution to increase and add to their faith. A confident faith is described as:
A. Observant faith 6:26, 28 birds, lilies
Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
B. Expectant faith 6:30, Philippians 4:5, 7
Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand.
Psalms 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation [is] from him.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
C. Rejoicing faith Philippians 4:4
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: [and] again I say, Rejoice.
Psalms 121:3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Proverbs 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
II. CONSISTENT PRAYER Philippians 4:6
Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Psalms 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
A. Decisions “minds”
B. Circumstances “in every thing”
C. Desires “requests”
III. COMMITTED PRIORITIES 6:33
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength:
What are the priorities that can establish perfect equanimity?
A. His relationship with us 6:33 “seek first” - His person
SEEK: to seek, crave [in order to find out] by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire into
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Take no thought for your life. Matthew 6:25.
“A warning which needs to be reiterated is that the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lust of other things entering in, will choke all that God puts in. We are never free from the recurring tides of this encroachment. If it does not come on the line of clothes and food, it will come on the line of money or lack of money; of friends or lack of friends; or on the line of difficult circumstances. It is one steady encroachment all the time, and unless we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the standard against it, these things will come in like a flood.
"Take no thought for your life." 'Be careful about one thing only,' says our Lord-'your relationship to Me.' Common sense shouts loud and says-'That is absurd, I must consider how I am going to live, I must consider what I am going to eat and drink.' Jesus says you must not. Beware of allowing the thought that this statement is made by One Who does not understand our particular circumstances. Jesus Christ knows our circumstances better than we do, and He says we must not think about these things so as to make them the one concern of our life. Whenever there is competition, be sure that you put your relationship to God first. Oswald Chambers "My Utmost for His Highest" January 27th devotion
B. His rule over us 6:33 “kingdom of God” - His superiority

C. His righteousness in us 6:33 “and His righteousness” - His approval
